Explore Our Rivers
Bethel is located 400 miles west of Anchorage and is the gateway to the 20 million acre Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, the largest wildlife refuge in North America. Bethel is also located in the Bristol Bay area of Alaska that is famous for its world class sport fishing. Our rivers have excellent fishing for Silver Salmon, King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Chum Salmon, Pink Salmon giant Leopard Rainbow Trout, Grayling, Arctic Char and Dolly Varden. Some rivers also have Northern Pike and Sheefish. These remote rivers also provide for incredible bird and wildlife viewing in addition to photographic opportunities.
Our rivers are not whitewater. Basic rowing experience is required on some while others still require more experience and problem solving skills. Low or high water, braids, sweeps or fallen trees make some of our rivers more difficult to navigate than others. Basic rowing and common sense with enough time to scout will get you down a number of our rivers.
None of our rivers come close to combat fishing. Our remote rivers may include 10 days without passing or seeing another group. Even our “popular” rivers with lodges and motorized traffic towards the bottom may provide a remote experience up top and a moderate impact at the bottom during certain times of the season. This is where we can assist to get you close to your goals and expectations.
Our rivers are not glacially fed and they are filtered by lakes. Because of this they will typically run crystal clear for excellent sight fishing opportunities. Lower water seasons (July and early August) provide great access to fish and camping locations while higher water seasons (Mid to Late August) may have reduced clarity in the lower sections that bring in the Salmon and make other fishing a bit more challenging.
Most trips start at the headwaters in the high mountain lakes. The outlets vary between 30′ and 200′ and meander through mountains, Boreal Forests, intermediate Tundra, and coastal Tundra before finishing their journey into the Kuskokwim or Bristol Bay.
